The Amex Trifecta

The Amex Trifecta refers to a combination of three American Express credit cards that work together to maximize rewards earning potential. Please note that there are different variations of the Amex Trifecta. Nonetheless, these cards are designed to work together to maximize rewards and benefits for users. The three cards typically included in the Amex Trifecta are:

  1. The Platinum Card® from American Express

  2. The American Express® Gold Card

  3. The Blue Business Plus Card

Each of these cards offers different bonus categories for earning rewards points, which can then be redeemed for travel, statement credits, or other benefits. By using all three cards strategically, cardholders can earn points faster and redeem them for greater value.

The Platinum Card® from American Express is a high-end credit card that offers a range of benefits for frequent travelers. Cardholders can earn 5x Membership Rewards points on flights booked directly with airlines or on AmexTravel.com, and 5x points on prepaid hotels booked on AmexTravel.com. Additionally, cardholders receive up to $200 in annual airline fee credits, up to $200 in annual Uber credits, and access to a range of airport lounges, including the Centurion Lounges, Delta Sky Clubs, and Priority Pass Select lounges. Other benefits include elite status with hotel loyalty programs, complimentary hotel room upgrades, and access to exclusive events and experiences. The card also has no foreign transaction fees and comes with travel and purchase protections. However, the card has a high annual fee and may not be suitable for everyone.

The American Express® Gold Card is a rewards credit card that offers bonus points on dining, groceries, and travel. Cardholders can earn 4x Membership Rewards points at restaurants worldwide and 4x points at U.S. supermarkets (on up to $25,000 per year in purchases, then 1x). Additionally, cardholders can earn 3x points on flights booked directly with airlines or on AmexTravel.com. Other benefits include up to $120 in dining credits each year, up to $100 in airline fee credits, and no foreign transaction fees. The card also comes with travel and purchase protections, as well as access to Amex Offers for savings on eligible purchases. However, the card has an annual fee and may not be suitable for everyone.

The Blue Business Plus Card from American Express is a business rewards credit card that offers a simple rewards program and a range of other benefits. Cardholders earn 2x Membership Rewards points on all purchases, up to $50,000 per year, and 1x points on all purchases thereafter. Additionally, the card has no annual fee and no category restrictions, making it a good choice for small business owners who want to earn rewards on all their purchases. The card also comes with a suite of business management tools, such as the ability to add employee cards with custom limits and track expenses in real-time. The card also offers purchase and travel protections, as well as access to Amex Offers for savings on eligible purchases. However, the card does charge foreign transaction fees, so it may not be the best choice for international travel.

By using these three cards strategically, you can earn points and cashback rewards on a wide range of purchases, and then use those rewards for travel, cash back, or other benefits. The Amex Trifecta has become another popular strategy for maximizing credit card rewards, particularly among frequent travelers and business owners. The other popular strategy is the Chase Trifecta. You can read more about it my blog about the Chase Trifecta here.

In conclusion, the Amex Trifecta can be a powerful rewards earning strategy for American Express cardholders, particularly for those who frequently travel, dine out, or make purchases at supermarkets. By strategically using the Platinum Card, Gold Card, and Blue Business Plus Card, cardholders can maximize their rewards earning potential and potentially redeem their points for travel or other benefits at a higher value. However, it's important to note that the strategy may not be suitable for everyone, as the cards have high annual fees and may not align with everyone's spending habits or travel preferences. Overall, the Amex Trifecta is a popular choice among rewards-focused credit card users and can be a valuable tool for those looking to earn and redeem rewards efficiently.
